Meetup contributions: pledges, Stripe payments and clear fees

Stripe availability

The Stripe Connect integration is built, but live collection is awaiting Stripe’s approval for this fundraising use case. Manual tracking with supported external payment links is available now. Recipients must comply with their payment provider’s eligibility requirements; connecting an account alone does not establish fundraising approval.

One optional card, three clear statuses

Guests enter a name and pledge amount. Pledged — unverified means a promise, not money received. Confirmed by organizer means the creator or workspace Owner checked an external payment and entered its final received amount. Verified by Stripe means Stripe confirmed the payment automatically. Organizer confirmation is never presented as Stripe verification. RSVP remains free of contribution requirements.

Stripe Connect: automatic tracking

A workspace Owner completes Stripe’s hosted account onboarding. Contributions are direct charges on that connected account; they do not enter Postly’s balance before reaching the organizer. Stripe handles payment details and payouts. Signed payment notifications update Meetyn, with refunds deducted and disputed amounts excluded while unresolved or lost. A return from checkout or a payment-link click is not proof of payment. Verification may take a little time and does not guarantee how an organizer uses funds.

The Meetyn fee is 1%, plus Stripe processing

Meetyn deducts 1% of each successful Stripe contribution from the organizer’s proceeds. Guests pay the amount they enter, with no additional Meetyn surcharge or tip prompt. Stripe’s processing fees also apply and vary by account, country, currency and payment method. Private reports show actual fees and net balance impact when settlement data is available. For a 50 USD contribution, Meetyn’s fee is 0.50 USD, before Stripe’s separate fee. Meetup payment fees are separate from the organizer’s Meetyn subscription.

Other providers: pledges and manual confirmation

Organizers can instead link a supported PayPal, GoFundMe or external Stripe Payment Link. These links are not synchronized with Meetyn and carry no Meetyn transaction fee; the provider may charge its own fees. Guests save their pledge before opening the provider. In the private report, the creator or Owner checks the payment and confirms the final amount received. Corrections are recorded, and refunds must be reflected manually. A standalone Stripe Payment Link uses this manual flow; automatic tracking requires the connected-account checkout created by Meetyn.

Understand the progress bar

The goal tracks confirmed contributions after refunds, before fees. Unverified pledges are shown separately and are not added to the received total. Stripe-verified and organizer-confirmed amounts are separately labeled. A contribution deadline closes new pledges and payment actions on Meetyn; it does not deactivate an external payment page or necessarily stop a Stripe checkout already opened.

Refunds, privacy and responsibility

Contact the recipient about refunds. Stripe organizers manage refunds in their Stripe dashboard; Meetyn tracks them and returns its platform fee proportionately. Stripe may retain processing fees. Donor names and individual amounts are restricted to authorized organizers and the contributing guest. Other guests see aggregate progress. Meetyn does not store card details, issue charitable tax receipts or offer digital rewards, tickets or paid access through this feature. Deleting a meetup removes its Meetyn records but does not refund payments or delete Stripe records.
